Society has some good news this time.

Technology:
-An airless, integrated tyre and wheel combination dubbed the TWEEL. The Tweel promises performance levels beyond those possible with conventional pneumatic technology.

Society:
-Castro resigns as president, state-run paper reports. The resignation ends nearly a half-century of iron-fisted rule that inspired revolutionaries but frustrated 10 U.S. presidents. See you around Mr. President.
-Spain opens new bullet train link. Spain's first high-speed rail link between Madrid and Barcelona has become operational, after years of delay. Finally!
-Former Councilman accused of slipping drug into woman's drink. Waiter Sees drugging attempt, intervenes. It brings faith to human nature when the good man takes action. :)
-China Set to Resume Human Rights Dialogue. Response to Western charges that its rights record renders it unfit to host the Games? Still it's a good thing.
-Paparazzo loses Kidman court case. "He is a man who makes his living from taking and selling candid photographs... of famous people; he had made a goal of obtaining photographs of Ms Kidman; he had waited all day, unrewarded, for a photograph of her." What a sad life... I really dislike paparazzis.
-German court limits cyber spying. Germany's highest court has restricted the right of the security services to spy on the computers of suspected criminals and terrorists. It's called privacy people!... respect it.

Humor:
And because we all need a good laugh:
