Safe flying? What a joke....

As we all know flying as been one of mankind's most intense dreams, until in 1902-1903 the Wright brothers managed to figure how a wing works (and more importantly a propeler). Nowadays nobody would consider society without airplanes. Just like the first roman roads changed transportation and mobility, flight changed the world.
But for some reason 100 years later there is still people afraid of flying. Either because they think that since they can't fly themselfs how would a 40 Ton metal object fly any better? That or because of the recent "threat" of terrorism.
And this is exactly why I am writing this post... Terrorism!!!!...
Did you shiver when you read that word?... I didn't when I wrote it, then why should you?
I know why.... campaign! Publicity! Media! For many years there has been terrorist threats and attacks, in the UK and Ireland, in Israel and Spain, a little everywhere we knew about it, so it's really nothing new... Trains, buses, a crowded shopping center or stadium. And the best answer to this problem was always applied: Condemm the attack, catch the perpetrators, continue life as it was. Don't give in to fear.
In fact trains, and subways are much better targets, as you saw in London and Madrid, but nobody checks your bags when you go to work do they?
But this procedure was changed since the G.W. Bush administration took that up terrorism as an excuse to do the unthinkable: Militarily invade a country (2 to be exact) claiming they are terrorists.
I don't know if you remember the following days after September 11, but I had to fly back to Porto then (domestic flight) shortly after and something was indeed different.
It wasn't fear of insecurity... it was stupidity. From one moment to the other I was prohibited to take my nail clipper in my hand luggage. I know, it's a dangerous weapon! What can I say? I usualy pack my luggage the day before and my hygiene stuff, since it's small I take it in the hand luggage. Not anymore...
It was so stupid this new situation, that I can not take a short nail scissors, but once on the flight I would get a metal knife to eat!
Safety increase? 0, zero, null. Annoyance? 10 points.
Flying to america??? ok, picture taken, black up my hands like a common criminal.
Safety increase? zero, ok... maybe 1. Annoyance? 50 points.

Five years later, things get dumber: Rules on flight liquids changed, in portuguese: Novas regras sobre líquidos nos aviões a partir de hoje. Meaning that I can't take any of my hygiene stuff with me as hand luggage, (the clipper is already gone 5 years ago). Because now my shampoo is dangerous!
Mixable liquid bombs??? These people have been watching way too much Macgyver. Not that it's impossible, but to make anything significant .... It's just stupid!
Safety increase? 0, zero, null. Annoyance? 30 points.
These "security measures" only annoy the clients and normal passagers, and does not provide ANY extra security.
Why do I say that they don't increase security? Because there is always a way to get around things. A simple paper clip can be used as a weapon if you treathen to take someone's eyeball out. The wine bottes you buy at the tax free shops (after the security check) can be broken and used as knifes. The shoe laces can choke someone to death... And they worry about the Evian??? Worry about baby milk? ohhh please....
We can go in NAKED and our hands are still weapons.
Next time we are just going to go handcuffed to the airplane like prisoners.
Mark how the american stupidity has contaminated even our national flights, I tell you.

Let's take a look at the history so that we can better understand the reasons why passangers are bothered with ridiculous procedures, that provide nothing.
Bomb plot police 'moving forward'
"There's a constant battle between ourselves and the terrorists to make sure we can keep ahead of that game" John Reid. I always found this quote strange... so is it just a game?
Timeline: UK 'terror plot' investigation
This is a funny one: on 16 AUGUST: US-BOUND PLANE ALERT
"There were reports that she was carrying a screwdriver and a note about al-Qaeda. It later emerges that she was carrying hand-cream - a banned substance - and some matches. She appears to have become claustrophobic on the flight and was restrained by cabin crew."
ARRESTED FOR HAND CREAM! lol.... you have to laugh... this was the dangerous terrorist?

But of course this is bound to happen. Ridiculous measures that only annoy the passengers, and make the terrorists happy. Why? Because they can still do their business, and managed to do their intend, get people scared and in alert, subdued to their will.
Cases of misjudgment are quite normal:
Uproar follows imams' detention, so the guys where muslims, so what????? They go to jail anyway... no praying before the flight!
Things only get more ridiculous: Flatulence leads US jet to divert. Farting is also not allowed!
At the end, americans (I mean the administration and security guards) are being so stupid, that
you can't even make a joke: Briton jailed in US after joking about bombs Don't play with the americans...

It is ridiculous, I don't know if you read it clearly... I'll write it again:
These "security measures" only annoy the clients and normal passagers, and does not provide ANY extra security.

I leave you now with the cartoons that best express my revolt about the current situation.
