Science:
-How to turn water into rocket fuel – scientists unlock power of the sun. But it's not just applications to rocket fuel. Power generation also profits from this development, as claimed by the Magazine New Scientist:
-Electrode lights the way to artificial photosynthesis. Basically Daniel Nocera and Matthew Kanan, chemists at MIT, have developed a material that splits water into oxygen and hydrogen at room temperature using relatively little electricity. Very interesting step forward.
As well Spanish researchers led by Perla Wahnón at the Institute for Solar Energy at the Polytechnic University, and José Conesa at the Institute of Catalysis of the Spanish Higher Scientific Research Council, both in Madrid, are developing a new solar cell that can absorb infrared too, and should make it possible to hike the power solar cells can produce, say the researchers. Big news for technology / energy fans, as well for environmentalists.
-Flat-panel ion thrusters. Tiny "nano thrusters" could be made into flat sheets mounted on the side of spacecraft.
-Phoenix Mars lander 'tastes' first sample of water ice. A small taste for a robot..... :)
