-Nepal votes to abolish monarchy. The Himalayan nation of Nepal has become the world's newest republic, ending 240 years of monarchy.
-Nayla Khalil wins Samir Kassir Prize. Khalil won definitive recognition for an article published on Internet in March, about political arrests and torture by Fatah and Hamas.
-Cluster bomb ban treaty approved. More than 100 nations have reached an agreement on a treaty which would ban current designs of cluster bombs. But some of the world's main producers and stockpilers - including the US, Russia and China - oppose the move.
-Religion is a product of evolution, software suggests. "If a person is willing to sacrifice for an abstract god then people feel like they are willing to sacrifice for the community," says James Dow. mmmm tough comment.
