Num modesto primeiro andar, a contar vindo do céu.

Não é que hoje [estando de férias na pérola do Atlântico que é a Madeira] tenha saudades da minha casinha como na música dos xutos, mas queria mostrar o processo de renovação do meu apartamento... que foi muito trabalhoso.
Ora bem, depois de passar uns dias a arrumar todos os meus pertençes, que felizmente não são tantos quanto isso. E a fazer a mala para vir de férias, NUNCA fiz uma mala de viagem com tanta antecedência na minha vida... Comecei o processo de desmontar os movéis e esvaziar o apartamento: primeiras fotos:

Note-se que no canto já tentava tirar a alcatifa. Mas foi a minha cama XXL que se mostrou o verdadeiro desafio, custou-me 5 horas de trabalho para desmontar. Raios parta os parafusos.
Na cozinha a aventura era outra:

As placas de madeira para instalar, os caixotes com tudo o que tinha nas prateleiras... nem os conseguia levantar!... era só livros.
Na cave a aventura continua:

Ainda cabe mais qualquer coisinha...
Só então é que começou o trabalho pesado; arrancar a alcatifa. Como previsto aquele poço de doença estava bem colado ao chão... com a ajuda do martelo, ou melhor da picareta que tinha na parte de trás do martelo, lá arranquei aquilo aos bocados e levei para o lixo. Resultado:

A cama e o colchão eram demasiado grandes para eu levar sozinho, isto foi o melhor que consegui fazer. Cama inclinada ali num canto e colchão no meu chão de cimento. Sim aquele ali sou eu morto de cansaço ao fim do dia.
Supostamente no dia seguinte viria alguem montar o chão de madeira, mas acabei por dormir uma noite extra no cimento. De qualquer maneira, mais limpo que a alcatifa.
Na terça feira seguinte de manhã lá apareceram e depois de um dia de trabalho este foi o resultado:

Os acabamentos não são nada de especial, as portas estão demasiado baixas para o chão e será necessário cortar uns milimetros, os rodapés são de um plástico manhoso, mas no fim o aspecto, o conforto e a saúde prevaleceram :D
Entretanto já montei a cama novamente, com novos parafusos, mas ainda falta montar muitos moveis, o que ficará para quando eu voltar das férias...

Yesterday I went out for a drink in an Irish pub here in Heidelberg. And where I was used to eat tons of someone else's smoke together with my Guinness, I found a smoke free environment and a bunch of non smoking signs. I got curious and I asked... which sweet soul had the ideia of turning O'Reilys smoke free? And it was the state.... :D How sweet of them.
So I went home and checked the german news:
-Raucher müssen draußen bleiben. In drei Bundesländern treten heute umfassende Nichtraucherschutzgesetze in Kraft. In Baden-Württemberg, Niedersachsen und Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ist der blaue Dunst ab sofort aus Gaststätten, Krankenhäusern, Schulen und Landesbehörden verbannt. Endlich!!!!!!
This means I can go out for a drink at night and save my nose. :D

With more good news, the regular way:
-Spanish unemployment hits near 30 year low. The National Statistics Institute said that part of the fall was due to more Spanish women joining the work force.
-British troops pull out of Northern Ireland after nearly four decades. After thirty-eight years the British Army is to pull out almost all its troops from Northern Ireland.
-Britain will take troops out of Iraq regardless of US, says PM. Gordon Brown has paved the way for the withdrawal of British troops from Iraq by telling George Bush he would not delay their exit in order to show unity with the United States. Two good decisions in my opinion.
-Ivorians burn guns for peace. The gun burning ceremony is meant as the symbolic start of the disarmament process.

Medicine:
-New gene therapy tools for inherited blindness identifed. Still a long way to go until we have the therapy itself, but it's a step forward.

Techonology:
-I-Limb a gripping invention. A new hope.

Science:
-Newsflash: Time May Not Exist. Simon Saunders, a philosopher of physics at the University of Oxford. “The situation is so uncomfortable that by far the best thing to do is declare oneself an agnostic.”

Ecology:
-Real green homes of the future showcased. Legislation in the UK means all new houses built from 2016 will have to meet strict energy efficiency standards.
